I purchased the Strike Finder 2 September of 2019 I was really excited to have it. The trigger is priced at $139.00. There are online promo codes or online coupons available. One of the first photos the strike finder took was definitely not perfect haha, I was half awake I rushed setting up my camera and the lens focus was completely off I was definitely bummed out. I did have a few more chances to get some lightning photos and the second try I finally photographed a decent daytime lightning bolt using the Strike Finder 2 I did have a few more chances to get lightning photos the storms fell apart when they got to me so I had to wait patiently till March 2020.
Using the Strike Finder 2 during the 2020 storm season
I was finally able to use the Strike Finder 2 during the 2020 storm season. It really astounded me with the accuracy of the infrared sensor, easy quick setup, also the battery use is pretty good too, I even had the Strike Finder 2 inside a camera rain cover which it did lower the accuracy of the infrared sensor still had good results. There are a few cool things I did with the Strike Finder 2 is when I’m in a vehicle I would put my camera on the Gripper 115 Windshield Mount keep the Strike Finder 2 connected to my camera and I would use a separate hot shoe mount to keep taking photos of lightning.
Items that come in the package
- Strike Finder 2 Lightning Trigger
- Cable to connect to your specific camera
- 9 volt battery
There was one instance when I was out storm chasing out in Oklahoma May 4,2020 I sat my camera in the vehicle and the hot shoe mount part of the Strike Finder 2 broke, during that time it was definitely difficult to keep the Strike Finder 2 from falling off my camera so I had to get creative and I used a rubber band and wrap it around the Strike Finder 2 and camera.
When I got home I messaged the company and I told them what happened to the Strike Finder 2. They emailed a package label and they fixed it for free with a new and improved more sturdy hot shoe mount. Ever since the hot shoe mount got replaced I haven’t had any problems with the Strike Finder 2.
